List of Synthesizers Capable of Vector or Wavetable Synthesi

Post by shinysign » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:35 pm

Hello, I wanted to make a big list of Wavetable or Vector Synthesizers - I am talking about fairly dedicated ones, not just a little option on the side. Though they are two different types of synthesis, Vector is less common so I thought I would combine it as it is also interesting.

I don't think that the MS2000 is a wavetable synth. Is it?

He didn't miss the Wavestation, it had already been called out in the original post.

In the way of Wolfgang Palm's "Wavetable synthesis"....no it's not.

Yamaha AN1x perhaps if you use the Z axis/pressure on the ribbon controller as well for morphing between scenes. Perhaps? Perhaps not? Its not wavetable. CS2x has something similar I think too with morphing between scenes, but no single control with a 2nd axis, its wavetable tho I think?

Great list so far. Wavetable is an odd synthesis, as is Vector, they didn't seem to catch on hugely in mainstream music, nor did Vector. Now Subtractive you hear everywhere :D

I am looking to hear more though, especially that spacey Wavetable pad sound - does anyone know of some good artists who use Wavetable or Vector Synthesis promenently in their songs?

Anyone know if Red Sound Dark Star does vector synthesis? Its got the cool joystick for it.

Roland V-Synth perhaps anyone know for sure? It'd be wasted potential of the pad if it couldn't do it.

Novation X-Station, another wasted pad and joystick if it can't do it, I thought it might, but not sure.

I have a Novation X-Station. To my knowledge it is purely subtractive with a little bit of FM, unless there is something I'm missing.

So the pad is important for vector synthesis I suppose. I don't know about the other synths you mentioned though.

Yeah I think a pad or joystick helps. Something with at least 2 planes of direction to it.

So what does the Radias and MS2000 do, vector synthesis? How so?
