Re: Name the synth quiz
Well, if it's not the CS-80 you sure did a good job of making it sound like one....

That sounds almost exactly the same as one of my Jupe 6 patches - brassy CEM'ish sounding lovelyness. I've gone for Prophet 5.
I didn't get where I am today by posting on internet forums.

Re: Name the synth quiz
I'll probably wait until this gets to three pages before I reveal the answer...
Re: Name the synth quiz
Zoinks! That's surprising to me. Every note seemed so in tune with each other I could have sworn it would be the Ion.hfinn wrote: I will spill one thing right now though, It's not an Ion.
The other thing that swayed my vote is what was mentioned by Clavier. The top end seemed lacking to be one of the other analogs in your list (shrug). No offense - I own or have owned all but one of the synths in your list.

Re: Name the synth quiz
I am leaning heavily towards it being a CS-80. Second guess would be a P-5 but the more I listen naw it couldn't be...could it? I will go with the CS-80 for the vote though. For some reason I have a feeling you sold it a while back and it isn't it. Maybe it was someone else who sold one.

We suck. That was the second synth I eliminated.

Re: Name the synth quiz
I guessed CS80, looks like it's the most popular guess. It had a Vangelis-like quality to it.
My 2nd guess would have been OB-X. It didn't sound like a P5 at all, and I haven't heard enough Memorymoog samples to get a feel for the way it sounds (watch it be that!!)
EDIT: Ugh... I posted my guess without seeing there was a 2nd page of posts and the answer!

Man, the first thing I thought when I heard the first bass note was Memorymoog. But then the melody notes got me thinking something else. Oddly, they sounded almost like a patch I have on my K5m -- that was what really threw me.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!

Re: Name the synth quiz
Yeah, there really wasn't anything to the sound itself that made me feel confident in any of the synths listed.
So I tried to focus on just spotting the maximum amount of voices I felt were being played at anyone time and then make deductions from there.
Oddly enough, there were a couple times where I felt things had just crossed over the 6 thresh hold, and with that, the Prophet was my first elimination followed by the Moog.
The 80 I ruled out just under the thinking that most people wouldn't have patience for the maintence nightmare it can be, not to neglect mention of how much of a pain it is to move around.
That left Ion and OBXA, and based off list of synths along with a picture of a modular I noticed on your page, I figured you preferred things analog, and thus leaned towards OBX.
My thought that the 6 line had just been breached a couple times was a play of my own mind I guess.
Good one.

Re: Name the synth quiz
Good track finnie!
Listened to it now on my lunchbreak...I would have guessed the CS-80 due to the "natural detuning" character of the sound, but I thought the filtermoves sounded a bit moog and not of Oberheim style at all.
Tricky one....keep 'em coming!
