This is the Depeche Mode "Fairlite"

Post by DX » Tue Feb 10, 2009 11:23 am

(Open this new thread appart from "Depeche Mode Gear" as this question has its own relevance)

Just spending some free time at job, I decided to seek what is that Martin Gore "Fairlite" keyboard.
It was said it is a Yamaha (portatone or early CS painted series even). But it is not. Thanks to a youtube video I had a clear view from it.

This is the machine (video at: )

On that gig (I guess it is Hammersmith Odeon) he didn't touched it on at least eight songs.

It was said he usually put it over the PPG for a kind of joke, as he (back on those days) couldn't (still) afford a Fairlight CMI :D

I guess now he could own one for the bedroom, another for the studio, another for the guest room , another for the car, etc

I bring this back in 2018 too :)

I noticed The "Fairlite" casio sound seems to be only a "half" (the horn style sound) of the whole lead sound. The bright, quick attack sound might be a different pre-recorded thing. Too bright and clean to be the MT30 imo.
