digging up le old thread - 31G just put up a recording of a whole locust gig from a few years ago, shot from behind the band, if anyone's interested in seeing a voyager and a mystery modular system used for evil.
pretty amazing footage.

Joey Karem = god. gabe serbian is also absolutely incredible on drums.

One of my favourite modern prog rock-metal songs...Riverside - Second Life Syndrome.

Their strings/synth sounds quite romplerish.

a couple of the 2nd wave black metal bands were pretty into synthesizers.
Fenriz from Darkthrone had an ambient/kraut/Tangerine Dream-influenced sideproject, Neptune Towers

and Burzum had a couple of synth-y ambient tracks

Two points for identifying the synth in this one:

...and Didn't Danny Carey in tool muck around with a VCS3 ? I remember reading about his obsession with the VCS3 (or maybe it was an AKS, but I digress...

And then there's another band whom I've forgotten the name... wait one, wait for it... s**t...

Uhm...
(dusting off the itunes library...)

Meshuggah... No... Ministry... yeah, but no... Orgy... sounds like fun, but no.... Neil Diamond...WTF... Ignore that <delete button hit>...Disturbed... I am, but no... Dream Theatre... too obvious...Fergie (you didn't see that. move along).... Aaah here we are...

Just want to point out that burzum is a nazi and in prison for killing somebody. Not really the best guy to advertise about.

And now to something much more fun to talk about. Geat metal bands that uses synths in a creative way:

Rolo Tomassi have some sweet tracks too..i definitely wouldnt lump this one into a 'hardcore breakdown' pigeon hole, but i think it's stunning none the less..so melancholy

In your opinion do you think we're still in the 'too soon' stage and he'll end up like Wagner where everyone can separate the politics from the music or will they always be tied together?
