Free EX800/Poly800 raw samples

Post by gcoudert » Wed Feb 25, 2009 11:05 pm

Before I sold my EX800 module many years ago, I sampled its unprocessed waveform combinations into my S2000 and made a CD of them. On the EX800, you could turn the 16', 8', 4' and 2' setting on or off for each of the two waveforms (squ/tri). Although it probably wasn't necessary, I sampled every single combination. I found the CD earlier today and thought I'd share those rather uninteresting samples with you. They are looped, trimmed and normalised but I'm not sure whether the loop points have been retained.

The samples are labelled as follows: SQU1011 means square wave with 16', 4' and 2' setting ON (and 8' OFF), etc.

You'll find them here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/19k25v

Please let me know if you found them useful.

did you sample them at different pitches?

just curious

No, I didn't, it's probably just C3. I didn't think it would make much different for such simple waveforms. Does it?

Depends on the use. In general, it does. Simple waveforms work best with samples every fifth, or at least every octave, C1-C6.

cheers,

i grabbed it. thanks! could be of some use in my SFX-60 or ESX, neither of which offer multisampling.

This is true. Without re-sampling at intervals like this, you'd get deep aliasing and all kinds of digital artifacts at the extreme pitch ranges.

The Poly800 had a kind of primitive DWGS that used square waves as sources. In the DW6000/8000 the DWGS was 8-bit, fixed (non-editable) and more fully developed... and in the DSS1 the DWGS waves are creatalbe/editable and increased to 12 bit. When you break down, say, a sawtooth multisample in the DSS1 digital waveform editor, you'd see that it's divided into multiple individual samples made every 6th or 7th semitone. That's the only way you'd get a realistic sawtooth sound comparable to a DCO in a PCM-based oscillator system like the Korg DWGS.

If you guys really want those waves, I have a Poly-800. I could sample it if you want...
I'm not convinced they are so special but if the demand is there.
