so simplistic but so under rated, its just such a fun synth for basic rythyms to supplement other stuff.
It goes very well with ms2k sequences.

Cool. I have an Akai AX73 which is a CEM 3394 chip brethren to the SixTrack. Akai and Sequential were working together on a few things when these were made. Akai built the Split 8, aka Pro 8, for Sequential. It seems only Akai and Sequential used the 3394. It does require tuning about 10 minutes after start up, but usually stays in tune thereafter. It is really cool for hollow bass sounds like Bjork used on her first two albums (she used an Akai AX-60.) I also like the mellow pads this synth makes - almost Prophet 5 sounding - which is amazing as this is a 1 oscillator per voice synth.

Here are a couple of tracks with my AX73: Akai AX73 Demo 100% Akai AX73 (Sorry about the clipping. I didn't have my record levels set right.)

SloMovinGroove The bass is two layers of AX73. The long notes are my Roland MKS-70.

the six-trak is great for lots of stuff...the filter is real nice and more suitable for snappier bass sounds than the p600. it can excel at nasally tones and real pretty stuff too. a versatile and often overlooked little gem.

Parameter 36 is where you set the midi channel but let me know if you figure out how to make it only respond to the set channel and not all.

oh i havent been using any midi with it. h**l i barely tweak the presets on this thing.
i considered it but all of its charm to me is just how simple and dirty it sounds.
its fun just spending an afternoon jamming rythyms out over a simple loop

What's the difference between the P600 and the Six? There is so many SCI synths that seem like the same thing in different packages.

The six trak has a pitch envelope, stack mode and audio rate modulation to the filter cutoff but,
The P600 has 2 Osc. per voice and the poly mod section (hard sync/frequency ,modulation effects etc.).

P600 much better sounding overall POlysynth in my opinion.
Sixtrak awesome basses and leads and also super smooth sounds (especially with delay added).
They are completely different synths.

that totally made me remember that I could make a sysex map on my novation, I think I am going to give midi a chance.

If sequencing from a computer are you able to alter parameters during playback?

It's been a long time since I once borrowed a SCI Six-Trak for a few weeks - I seem to remember you can but the midi implementation is very early and rather odd.

i dont suppose anyone knows a way to make the voices respond to its own midi channel?
there doesnt seem to be much info online on this piece. the midi implementation is definitly odd, there are somethings on here that react so much more different then expected that i thought a few things was broken till i stumbled on the correct way.

A great resource for Six-Trak users is NoteIt's SCI site:

http://www.geocities.com/soho/2163/sc.html

In particular for some of the questions left unresolved on this thread, the Six-Trak operation page makes for excellent reference for all those number-pad-accessed features:

http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/2163/6trakop.html

The Six-Trak's multitimbral operation is not comprehensive (it was the first to be multitimbral via MIDI, so what do you expect); you can choose the base channel, then the other five channels ascend from there, e.g. if you set into mono mode (multi mode did not exist in 1984), then select MIDI channel 3, then track 1 will be on channel 3, track 2 on channel 4,..., and track 6 on channel 8. It gets the job done. As long as your other gear is pretty flexible or simple on this count it is not a problem.

There are other interesting gems on this site: There is a section called the wall where people used to post their findings, I recall one stating that the voice assignments during multitimbral operation can be selected using the stack button. Your mileage may vary.
Also, the output expander circuit is a useful find; got one in the works here.
