yeah, good point. This does really add a lot of variety to the sound. The 503 looked really cool, but the lack of Clap kept me away. But with Clap in place, maybe the 522 will be that analog improvement on the ER-1 that I've been looking for.
However, I don't know how they could get away from another "808 sounding" machine with the design we're looking at. the 502s snare to me already sounds very 808-ish. very tight, and papery (like the 808). the kick is already super thumpy.
But it's irrelevant how close it sounds-if they just improved some of the instruments on the 502, it would be solid. The clap on the 502 is probably the weakest instrument, unless you think of it as a super snare. It doesn't sound bad as an "analog clap", but I think I've been indoctrinated by Roland as to what a clap should sound like! but then again, it's nice to have a box whose instruments sound nothing like anything else (well, other than older pre-808/909 era stuff).
I believe that. Is it any good? I've never checked that series of books. Just looking at them makes me feel they are super simplified and not worth opening.
