Not exactly a famous song, but im pretty sure you can hear the Tubular Bells preset very prominantly in the outro of 'The Landscape Is Changing' by Depeche Mode.

I rather believe that's the Synclavier II on the outro, a lot of the synth sounds on Construction Time Again were generated from this state of the art digital synth/sampler. The album was recorded in the spring of '83, just prior to the DX-7's release to the market.

We've already discussed that song earlier in this thread:

There ain't no DX-7 in that song, the bells, harp and metal sounds are from the PPG Wave and Synclavier II respectively.

(The tubular bells sounds on It Doesn't Matter could be the DX-7 though).

According to the People Are People synth breakdown in the Nov 1984 issue of International Musician:

"“There’s a Synclavier harp sound in the verses,” contributes Alan, “and an ARP sequencer playing very fast in the chorus and there’s some Emulator sounds that we used for adding a few frills here and there.”

"I Still Believe" by Brenda K. Starr (1988) (Mariah Carey covered this a few years back, but no DX7 bells on her version!)

And not an '80s song, but the doorbell sound from Pee Wee's Playhouse was Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh playing them DX7 bells :)

I recorded a song in '86 that features 'tubular bells' and a collaborator of Nash the Slash, but it came from a DX21. If I can figure out how to post it for you, I will.

looks like a yamaha tx-7 to the immediate right of the eii but not sure what's beneath it. the little box to the right of the mixer looks like an mc-8 though i don't know why he'd need one of those. anyone else?

I'm 100% that's the Synclavier. Super-fat eerie sound and the best song on the album. The DX-7 tubes don't sound that harsh...
