I'll narrow it down to my top 3...

Selling regrets:

OB-8, CS-15, MS-20

Buying regrets:

MS-2000, JX-10, Multitrak (although the Multitrak only because it's never worked properly and is not a reflection of the synth itself)

Regret selling:

Doepfer A100G6 full case - 3 VCOs and lots of other fun modules.

Regret buying:

with the funds from selling the Doepfer system, I bought a PEK.

buying - the first synth was a poly 800 instead of a juno 106. I was about 15 and we got a better deal on the poly 800 and was talked out of that bigger synth with all those sliders to deal with. I still maintain that my understanding of synthesis would have been accelerated by about 10 years had I got the Juno instead. Plus my early tracks would've sounded alot better.

Selling -

EIII keyboard - best sounding gear I've ever had. Everything I sampled into it sounded better than the source. I wasn't making any money at the time and was too afraid of maintenance costs. Once I got it I had to spend $200 on repairs, then the external SCSI didn't seem to work so I dumped it after a while.

Monomachine keyboard - I've had 3 of these. Love 'em, hate 'em. Creatively wonderful, aesthetically unique, the sound - well digital is an understatement.

Regret Buying:
Roland Juno-106's, not enough usable parts to build one, they worked alright, but the voice chips were toast, and well it was just a bad move on my part. I can rebuild them eventually but its just beyond my means ATM

Regret buying is the KORG M-500 - eventually the worst synth I ever tried...
I hate it so much I don't even want to try to sell it

Regret selling my AKAI S1000 - I just realize I'll need it to hook it with my EWI1000 and EWV2000 module...

Regret buying:

Alesis Quadrasynth - what was I thinking? Thankfully, long gone
DX9 - uggh! practically unusable; all the frustrations of FM with none of the rewards ... (I was 18 and thought it was just as good as the DX7 and cheaper

Regret selling:

Nord Rack 2x - needed the cash #-o
Yamaha SY85 / SY99 / Motif 6 / MO8

I guess I regret buying the Cwejman S1 Mk2, and I guess I regret selling it, as well.

Niall.

regret buying:
Alpha Centauri - sold the Prophet 5, TR808, MC202 and SH101 to buy an Apple IIE with the Alpha Centauri in 1984.

regret selling:
Prophet 5 (re-aquired)
Pro 1 (re-aquired)
Moog Prodigy
Arp 2600
Aries Modular

Too many regrets. This is why I don't sell much gear any more.

Regret buying :

Red Sound Darkstart : I don't like the sound and interface.

Oberheim Ob 12 ... a lot of knobs, looks very nice but I didn't like the sound at all. I sold it to finance part of my Synthesizers.com modular that I will never be regret of buying.

Regret selling :

Kawai K3 : the overall sound wasn't amazing but you can get sounds very very good. Nice mix of digital oscillators and analog filter.

You know...I've changed my mind. I don't regret selling it, but I do miss it sometimes.
Good source of weird effects and things like that.

Regret getting:
- K1m (I found it uninteresting and limited, luckilly it quickly found a new home).
- U220 (although I have three cards for it and use it frequently for piano, it's so frustrating limited I can't stand it).

Sort of regret getting:
- VZ-10M (it would be great and wild synth, it's just halfway done)

Previously regretted:
- 01R/W (I found the presets boring and uninspiring, but then I found " A27 Analog Pad")

Regret selling
- CS01 (Needed money, now I have money and don't have CS01)
- Vermona Synthesizer (actually not sold it, but trashed [I'm unclean], after frying LFO board)

Kawai K3, I sold mine a while back, and I kick myself in the butt daily because it might have been kinda cheesey, but the PPG filter, and the Oscilators made some amazing sounds, and the presets wheren't half bad either. Well thats my little rant lol

Let's see.
Regret selling: My Kawai SX240. Haven't been able to make anywhere near those sounds on my other gear.
Regret buying: Strangely, the Juno 6. Not enough features for the price.
