To these people it's just another monosynth that there are a dime a dozen of these days, right?
Legend and nostalgia can't market an item alone.
:? Dude is talking about sound quality, not nostalgia. And if a new one comes out then plenty of people will hear it, cause they'll be able to hear them in the shops.

yep one of the few synths (4 v) that made my hair on the back of my neck stand UP
beautiful vcos
supreme filter
smacking envs
certainly not simple if you patch them out, relatively easy to!

I think people are forgetting that all the SEM clones out there don't do the SEM justice and don't sound nearly as good as the real deal.

Sure the sem is just a simple monosynth but one of the dirtiest and rawest ever. If this new SEM is exactly the same we are in for a treat, hopefully it is exactly the same and it doesn't have DCOs...

I would pay $700-900 for a new sem with no midi or patch storage or polyphonic afterburn.

In some ways this new Oberheim may compete with the Doepfer Black Energy.

I'm interested in both, though I wonder how long (if at all) the new SEM will take to get to market.

1) it is an SEM

2) it will sound EXACTLY like the original- no cut corners (it's already been A/B'd).

3) no exact price yet, but will be reasonably priced

No need to debate me, this is all on the highest possible authority! :)

Sick. Can the new SEMs be chained together for additional polyphony?

though you'll never convince 95% of the owners of an original SEM. "it's just that something, I can't put a finger on it, but......"

If the price is right, I'd buy that for a dollar

no seriously, this is great news, but the price will really mean the difference between "that's great, but I'll hold off in light of the many other advances that have been made in synthesis in the last 30 years" and "must have one immediately" (for me at least).

Current SEMs put me off because of price, but as I think I stated in the last "new oberheim" thread, if they can at least make it look more attractive than the originals price-wise, I think they'll have a lot of interest. Though the "not 30 years old and likely to break aspect" is worth something in itself!

Anwyays, can't wait to hear more about it.
Do you even post on vse bro?

yeah good points ruff, the price will certainly mean a lot especially in the c**p economy. I think $600-900 is reasonable but they still won't sell like hot cakes if near 900 at that price since there won't be a keyboard, midi, patch storage like on a little phatty.

if it were modular that would be awesome but you gotta admit the analogue solutions telemark modular semblance is pretty tempting at $1200, I would certainly buy a modular sem for $1200. I've been looking at that cool modified sem on ebay which I would buy if it were cheaper.

yeah hopefully they can be chained and they aren't that expensive. a brand new 4 voice would sweet!

either way the new sem will help to keep vintage synth prices in check! will even lower the price of the original sem if they are truly the same.
