Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers
I’ll just take it upon myself to start this poll. Obviously, the more people that take the poll the larger and more accurate the sample will be. So please vote. We are trying to determine whether or not EDM has had the strongest influence in the “resurgence” and/or continued popularity of synthesizers. You have 2 choices EDM and all of its variations and sub genres or any other type of music.

Ok, that's fair. Although I like my poll suggestion which included Polkas and Fish as choices.

Re: Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers
I ask because this poll is intended to be fair and transparent. It is just an extension of the “do you acknowledge dance music” thread. I actually took the subgenres of EDM verbatim from Yatmandu. If you feel I am somehow unfairly characterizing EDM or doing something to skew the vote please let me know so I can correct this.

Only trouble with this; what if you are old and got into synths before EDM...
Unless of course you're including 70's disco?

I also want to state that I don’t dislike EDM. I recognize that it has a special place in electronic music and has a wide influence on (as well as being widely influenced by) other genres. I particularly like some of the bands that fall under the IDM genre, though I’m not very fond of the name and question whether or not much of it can be considered “dance music”.

Well that would suggest the EDM was not your primary influence, wouldn't it? So how is that a problem?jaypodesta wrote:Only trouble with this; what if you are old and got into synths before EDM...

should be a 3rd option for people like me who fit both. am playing synth in a band and playing EDM stuff on my own.

Not a problem just wondered about how accurate it ends up.otto wrote:Well that would suggest the EDM was not your primary influence, wouldn't it? So how is that a problem?jaypodesta wrote:Only trouble with this; what if you are old and got into synths before EDM...

The point is to determine whether or not EDM or some other form of music was your primary focus for getting into synthesizers. If you got into synthesizers in the ‘70s because of Wendy Carlos than you obviously didn’t because of EDM. I don’t see how that is unfair. Are you suggesting not including a segment of the synth owning population is more fair because of when they were born? It surely isn’t fair to give any genre of music special treatment. That’s called skewing data.

Everyone would take the easy way out, wouldn't they? I think you should try to decide what your primary motivation for getting into synthesizers was in the first place and see if any one band or genre was a stronger motivation.space6oy wrote:should be a 3rd option for people like me who fit both. am playing synth in a band and playing EDM stuff on my own.

Fair poll, and now if we could get an answer from everyone who loves/owns synths you'd have your answer.
Re: Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers
I guess EDMers are in the minority here. The VSE demographic is probably not the best way to prove my point.
