Your Synth Setup is now Extinct!

Post by gnasher » Sun Jun 21, 2009 9:15 pm

I've been thinking about this thread for a while. It could be fairly interesting :wink: .

Ok, so let's say that everything in our synth setup breaks and you can't replace it with the same thing. What would you replace each item with? You can give reasons if you think it needs it. Keys and synth modules are the main things but add in effects if you want. I will if others do :D.

For me and my meager collection :roll: :

Korg EA1 => Red Sound Darkstar
CME UF60 => Novation SL61 Mk2
Alesis Quadrasynth => Korg Triton Pro 76
Yamaha DGX220 => I wouldn't be in any rush to replace it
The music does not exist to serve us. We exist to serve the music.

I love my RedSound DarkstarXP2 to death, but im not sure id be an equal replacement of a Korg-EA1.
As It lacks a sequencer.. Its just an amazing sounding Desktop module, with kicka$$ filters :)

The EA-1 was kind of an impulse buy. It was cheap and I had the money so I went for it. There was a darkstar that was more expensive but I didn't have the money. I don't use the sequencer that much, I use it as a synth module most of the time.

Sometimes change is good and I'm not "married" to anything I have, except for the JD-990.

Juno-60 replaced with either a Polysix or JX-3P + PG-200, or Prophet-600 (I'd like at least one knobby analog)
D-550 together with JX-10 replaced with a Blofeld (keyboard version) or Snow
JD-990 replaced with a Kurzweil K2VXS, FS1r, or Fantom X6

Of course I'd like a Virus Ti or Polar Ti instead of a Snow and a P5 or an OB-8 instead of a Polysix or JX, but I'm trying to be realistic and work within my financial means. The Blofeld, Snow, and Fantom would all require additional cash of course and wouldn't be direct swaps.

Whoo, I'd be gutted if that happened...
Alpha Juno-2\Juno-106 (I like the 106 better)
DS-8\DX-7 (Their both FM)
Poly-800\DW-8000 (IMO DW-8000> Poly-800 feature wise)
ESQ-1\ Mo'phatt Keys (The ESQ lacks good layering, on-board effects and an arp)

Moog Little Phatty --> Moog Voyager OS
Sequential Pro-One --> Roland SH-5
Future-Retro XS --> Analogue Solutions Telemark
Yamaha CS-15 --> Korg Mono/Poly
Dave Smith Prophet'08 --> Alesis Andromeda

Most of them would be considered "upgrades", but a guy's gotta dream.
