Standalone MIDI-Synced LFO?

Post by winningatlife » Thu Jun 25, 2009 8:59 pm

Does anyone know if a product like this exists?

There are modular LFO units, but what I'd like is a standalone unit I can run the audio out signal from a synth through and modulate based on the MIDI Clock - basically it would allow me to add some synchronized wobbles and stabs to any analog synth...
Some keys I have: Yamaha CS20M, ARP Axxe, Chroma Polaris, Roland Juno 60, Vermona DRMMKII, Roland R8, Sequential Circuits Pro-One, x0xbox, Terratec MB 33 II Superbass, Kurzweil SP88.

A quick Google search indicates that Doepfer has one, and the Future Retro XS has one as well. There may be others as well.

If/when I jump on the modular bandwagon maybe I'll build one!

DSI Mopho / Evolver.

Although I realise you're getting more than just an LFO with those. Why not eh?

I think he wants something he can patch into his modular system. There's no CV outputs from a Mopho's LFO...

I think you need to go back and read the opening post then. Or even just the thread title.

I can't think of anything that only does LFO; the only things that come to mind are Moog's CP251, but you'd need a CV-to-MIDI converter to use it, a Sherman Filterbank, but you'd be getting (and paying for) much more than an LFO.

Well it sounds like what yer man wants is a filter with a MIDI syncable LFO attached. Personally I'd go for a Mopho as you'd be getting so much else in the deal.

Some others maybe -

Electrix Filter Factory - http://www.vintagesynth.com/misc/electrixfilter.php

Sherman Filter Bank - http://www.dv247.com/invt/13003/

AKAI MFC-42 - http://www.vintagesynth.com/akai/mfc42.php

Yeah a Mopho could work - run into the Line In, and set the LFO to Sync with the MIDI clock.

Anybody have a Mopho they would want to try this on? I have some questions...

So say you run, for example, Prophet 600 Audio Out -->Mopho Ext In----->Mopho Audio Out--->Mixer/Amp/Speakers
MIDI Clock Signal ---> Mopho Midi IN

Set the Mopho LFO to MIDI Sync and map the LFO to modulate the VCA, will this affect the input signal or is the Ext In only affected by the Filter?

LFO can then be assigned to one of the panel knobs, set to one of the syncable (sp?) parameters 151-166, and I'll be able to wobble in Sync to my heart's content?

You might try searching for tremolo devices; trem pedals, recording apps...
Too futurist to live.

Thought of that... MIDI in and different waveshapes are rarely an option though. :/
