Ah then we're actually in agreement. :D

I don't need all my equipment to be po'faced, but the Mopho and Evolver look quite messy and a little juvenile to me. I'm on the fence about the Tetra.

It has me thinking about upgrading my Mopho to it, if only for having real pots for filter cutoff/resonance instead of those incremental jobbies the Mopho has.

If its all about appearances and design, i could make you a prop 'synthesizer' for you to take on gigs that just connects to a Tetra hidden inside

They're called midi controllers, and they're mostly really really ugly
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.

Well I don't think it looks bad at all, certainly better looking than the Mopho. The font can't compare to the ugliness of the mopho one, it's ok.

-the tetra does indeed look better than the mopho but that's not really saying much.
-i am a fan of the mistral dave smith instruments logo.
-i agree that the main points are what it sounds like and how intuitive it is to use but i think that aesthetics are still an important part of product design.
-most midi controllers are quite ugly.

Anyone thats too bothered about looks needs to just use it!
I bought one about a month ago and was not particularly into the look but was impressed with the sound whilst writing patches, but last night was the first time I used a patch in a new tune and it sounds so fat in the mix which made me more impressed with it! I actually like the look of it more now as I find I have more respect for it now.

Edit: Mopho ^^^ that is! I'll be looking at the Tetra more closely now than I would have done.

I know what you mean. Hated the look of my Little Phatty when I got it. But it sounds so good..... I started to warm to how it looks. Now I love it!!

That's a bit of a bummer.

I'm sorry I said it was such a great price now.

this is pretty subjective--that looks worse imo

but hey, if you buy one and just can't stand to look at it, nobody says you can't paint it yourself.

i think the dsi design is rather slick, much better than the mopho and while i dont think the evolver desktop is bad looking and i really really like the matrix editor on it much more than assignable editing, purple and blue is kinda bleh.
