Post by gtivr6fan » Thu Jul 16, 2009 1:01 am

Just wondering if there was any sort of modifications known for the MC303, I know there is for the TB303, any ideas?

It's digital, so modding it would involve flashing the firmware. Not likely.

Modding doesn't mean flashing firmware if its digital, nice try but gets a

You could pimp out the LEDs with dif colors like they do on the TBs.

Or, swap out the knobs with gold-plated, phallic-shaped cheetos .

Ah, I was thinking of functional mods like the Devilfish for the TB-303 or the Typhoon OS for the TX16W. I mentioned flashing it because it doesn't load the OS from a disk like the Yammie.

But yeah, you could swap out the LEDs for different coloured ones if that takes your fancy. Or if you're into circuit bending then open it up and have a poke around with a pot on some leads and see if you can find anything interesting. There's no set bends like there is with the SKs, but those are kind of boring anyway. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something in there that makes it sound better. :D

If the mc-303 uses a DSP (as I imagine it does), your bending options are limited, but it's worth a (non-destructive) shot. Do you have a multimeter?

You still kick a lot of VSEF a*s Stabby ::shmooze mode off::

Yeah I've never heard of anyone modding out an mc303, or for that matter really hacking out a proprietary firmware on a synth's rom. I'm no expert, but I think it'd be interesting to see a tb303 DevilFish mod put on an MC303 8)

he,he,he.

I never really use the MC for anything concrete, only to dust off and play every once in a blue moon. Rather than sell it and get a few bucks, just thinking if I could somehow breath a little life back into it, I just might find a place for it in my setup, sans cheetos! I was thinking there was a eprom upgrade or something, not sure I want to experiment with bending this one.

You could open it up and test for positive voltage at various spots.. carefully poke around and make some connections to test for bend points.

I just saw a video on youtube of a bent mc-505 making some pretty harsh noise, so you might be able to have a bit of fun. (The sounds in the vid are f**k awful, though.)

not very creative. I prefer golden, phallic shaped cheetos over smoldering plastic and metal, and a broken microwave.

I would just leave the 303 alone, it sounds bad
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.
