Name that B-52s drum machine

Post by Rela38 » Sun Jul 26, 2009 4:52 pm

This has been bugging me for a while. There is a drum machine used heavily in the "Whammy" album by the B-52s. I have searched and searched and can't find any information. All I can say is that it sounds delightfully cheesy - perhaps they recorded the drum machine playing out of a boom box or something. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Doesn't sound like one to me - that clap sounds nothing like any of the Linn machines.

Not much in the way of direct info, but there's a book (now OOP) that's filled with all kinds of info, including some gear used, called Universe. Find that and you may just find your answer. I got some guitar tunings out of it, soooo ...

Thanks - that's one less thing to stay awake wondering about. You listen to something like what the B-52s did and then you listen to the Prince stuff and I wouldn't have guessed they were the same machine at all. Not that I don't like what the B's did - it suits the album very well.
