any other analog synths that can take external audio?

Post by whammybar » Fri Jul 31, 2009 9:11 am

Are there other analog synths, like the Yamaha CS5, that can take in external audio from say, a guitar or bass guitar.

From my collection alone.... the Odyssey, CS-15, Little Phatty, and XS all have external audio inputs.

Mek does, in stereo. Also has input hack, which decimates the sound. You can route the Highpass filter after the external in. You can also route the distortion after external in. I think it's winning in most versatile input.

A shorter list would be analog synths which cannot take external audio...

I'll just throw in that I've modified my SH-101 and Minikorg 700S to take audio in to filter, so synths that are easily modified make this list even bigger. My Minikorg in particular only takes Microphone level signals, so it doubly applies.

The first thing to try with one of these is the infamous feedback trick, by splitting the output, or using a headphone out, should one be present, to feed back to the input. Every synth is going to react differently to doing this, not all of them in an interesting way.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.
