Burning Man and gear
So i'm one of those crazies heading to Burning Man this year... My band is slated to mob a massive sound system and i was thinking of bringing two of my electribes. Is there anything i could do to protect from all the dust? I have a guy who will hopefully be able to clean them up after the burn, but is there any pre-protection steps i could take to keep things somewhat safer?
many thanks
many thanks

Re: Burning Man and gear
sort of difficult protecting your gear from playa dust
The only idea that comes to mind are- plastic trash bags. keep your equipment in them at all times.
see you at the burn

at the very least, cover any unused ports/plugs/slots... although if something has cooling-holes.. its a tough call.

Didn't we already do this?
Build a baffle or use a sandblasting tank or something along those lines.

Re: Burning Man and gear
we did cover this before.
This event takes place on the Alkaline flats of NV, so its more dust than sand.
from my experience , this mineral wreaks havoc on electronic devices/ on top of the 115+ degree weather.
"both Laptop, & Digital camera suffered casualties"
I'd almost advice not doing it- but you sound gun-ho about it.

Re: Burning Man and gear
many thanks for the advice, IG, i'm gung-ho but i'm thinking i will just brink my es-1. If it does get damaged, it will give me an excuse to invest in an ESX.
Tallow, apologies man if it was a repeat... i was in a hurry and needed some quick advice.
thanks fellow VSE-ers!

No worries, I was just saying maybe check that thread out. It is in Sound Production somewhere, lots of ideas tossed about in that one that might be helpful to you.XeemEyexoX wrote: Tallow, apologies man if it was a repeat... i was in a hurry and needed some quick advice.
Good luck with your gig.

Re: Burning Man and gear
Get a padded case for both of them. It would be a miracle if they made it to and from without getting bumped around. Take them out only when you're performing. After that, just hope for the best. You could have beautiful weather or an 80 MPH sand storm and not much you can do about it.

Re: Burning Man and gear
Your gear WILL get sand into it. That is the simple truth.
No matter how careful you cover it up it will get sand into it.

Re: Burning Man and gear
if you don't have sliders or knobs i've came to the conclusion that a cheap way was to cover them with thermoretractile cling wrap and only poncture the holes for the cables. if you're freak as i am, you can seal the plug by using those tacking gum used to hang posters to the walls.

Invest in a large plastic bubble to perform in.
Work that concept into your act somehow.
