Neat, but dear lord who is actually paying that for tape samples?
I am happy with the Nord sample library.

Anymore news on that Fairlight?

Another classic lives on =D>
Does this mean Tony Banks will be getting one and Peter will be rejoining Genesis?

I thought the Mellotron had already come back into production...

Either way, not a surprise as I had read other articles about a new 'tron development by Streetly long ago.

Yeah, Streetly has been making noises about Mellotrons with cycling for quite a while now. I know that they make new Trons in Calgary, Alberta which are the Mark VIs. Or at least they did, dunno if they went under or are just quietly tronning away...?

Not to break up the party, but the Memotron sounds absolutely incredible (friend of a friend has one, heard him play it live through a good PA) and has no moving parts. IMO it does everything the Mellotron does in terms of sound, look etc and won't have the maintenance issues.

"Smoke and dust could very quickly foul the playback heads and damage the tapes of the old Mellotron and Novatron machines. The new M4000 eliminates these problems through the implementation of its unique Filtron air filtration system and a gently pressurized cabinet, which prevents the ingestion of any unwanted airborne agents such as stage smoke."

The M4000 came out on 2007:

so have they made some changes?

And the Mark VI in 2002:

old news is old, man... pflosi where have you been ?

You can get a Manikin Memotron, which much cheaper at £1560 plus Tron Tape packs on CD at another £50 to use in the Memotron. £4000+ for a new Mellotron is pretty steep.

All a waste of money IMHO. The M-Tron plugin sounds just the same, and it's neat.

well... i wasnt aware of the fact that they we're already producing it again. were they really?

and... i won't buy it. of course it's expensive, and of course the memotron is cool and plugins do the job. but i think it's just great that there is some sort of revival of those classics

Back in December of 2004, there was a Mellotron workshop held in Philly. There were two newer models there, and you could still get parts and tapes. One of the demonstrations was a tape change, took a few minutes. And one of new ones jamed a bit and made an acordian out of one of the tapes. But all of the owners claimed they were a special instrument, and nothing like the feel of the motor and tape running under their fingers, except the real thing.
Here is a link to that workshop, with about a dozen or so other links to Mellotron related sites.
