..jesus this thing is lot of fun :) it took me 20 minutes to put it together, my bet is anyone with any experience whatsoever can do it in less than 5, and it sounds very cool :)

but what really got me was one part of the case design: it uses CARDBOARD for the bottom enclosure... crazy, strange japaneese guys...

..and I think this one can be really fun in a live setting :)

So ehm... how's the sound.. and can you actually play anything usable on it?

While it certainly looks a lot of fun.. all the demo vids i've seen of it make it seem about as usable in music as an electronic door chime.

yeah, it's good for weird sounds, but not in a very musical way... with high levels of consentration I was able to play something that anyone would recognize as smoke on the water, but trying to play "I just can't get enough" was too difficult.

just put it through my ESX for some fx, and it could actually be very good for quick, non-sterile buildups in a live setting.. instant dubfire feel ;)

the sound is.. well, definately analog in character, it does stuff my elektron's can't (not that I'd want them to tho), but for anyone with an older analog mono, the sound is probably very flat compared to moogs and korgs etc.
it's got an external input for control, will try to hook it up to the acidlab bassline later for some weirdo strangeness

I love mine. Sounds great, I find the filter can do a bit of "talking" like "wuh wanh" kind of sounds. I've used it in a track I used to have up on my myspace, but I changed sounds and it's gone now.

Probably the cheapest way in the world to get the korg MS sound.... it's pretty rude sounding.

Am I the only one who gets about 5 minutes worth of satisfaction from stuff like this? I used to love this type of stuff in principle, but in actually use it gets boring quick for me.

no, I was pretty bored with the capabilities withing 5 minues, but the experience, the assembling it (ok, so it's the easiest assembly ever) was fun, exciting, it felt like I was steping into a bigger world. Besides, I think I'll be able to sneak it into my live setup for quick and user-interactive transitional sweeps and whatnot. also, recording some noodling, chopping it up in some software and loading into the UW should be kinda fun, and atleast somewhat useful in bringing in a new sound.

but yes, it's fun but quickly dries out, especially when it has to compete with my MDUW for playtime :p

I have an SX-150. It's cool for little synth FX and what-not, but I can't seem to get much else out of it.

My only complaint is that the stupid filter seems to lose itself at around 11 O'clock. By that I mean, when I turn the Filter Cutoff knob the signal is gone by the time it reaches 11 O'clock. There's still a good 1/3 turn at least till I hit the knob's extreme. I wonder if this is typical or if mine is defective. It's been like that since day one.

All in all, it's worth the price, if anything for the free magazine. If only I could read Japanese 8[

But this is the coolest thing I've seen yet with an SX-150!: http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2009/0 ... 6B48984890
