Anyone else prefer the MBase01 to the Mbase11?

Post by sensorium » Fri Oct 23, 2009 6:24 am

I got a chance to A/B these to units this weekend, and I MUCH prefer the sound of my 01 to my friend's 11. The 01 seems rounder, fuller, more organic. The 11 had a tinny sound to it. It almost sounded like a VA or FM kick to me? Anyone else had experience with both machines? What are your opinions?

i haven't yet played a mbase-11 but I've extensively tried all the jomox drum machines including the 888 which is probably the most similar to the 11, as well as having owned many 01 units.

I think that all the jomox kicks sound really similar even the airbase, xbase-09, jazebase, 999 I just don't think that they sound very different though obviously the added features on the 888 were an improvement.

So I have a hard time believing that the 11 wouldn't sound just as good and would imagine it would sound better since it's basically a 888 kick with the added metalized noise. I also really don't like that in the 01 there is no pitch envelope sound it's sounds a lot more flat to me.

I also hate that the 01 just has like 10 memory slots and the presets suck!

So I'm just waiting for the first used mbase11 to pop up on ebay :)

The MBase 01 does have a pitch envelope and it's got 64 memory slots, so I don't know where you are coming from nada...

I have the original cream coloured one, so maybe there is a difference if you tried the black one. I highly Doubt it though.

The MBase 01 sounds bloody great, but that damn encoder is driving me nuts. I tend to always scroll values forward over the 0 instead of scrolling backwards :/

Haven't tried the 11, but I thought it had exactly the same engine as the 01 + some minor things (POT for scrolling values!!!!!!!)

I prefer the MBase11 over the 1 due to the extra knob. ;) Seriously, I didn't A/B them, but the 11 is the first Jomox product that I've gelled with. I think it is great. I think you can't go wrong with either. If you have the 1, then I don't see any sense of upgrading.
