I agree.Hair wrote:This reeeally should be in a rack. They'd sell a lot more, and there are enough MIDI-pedals on the market to hook up and satisfy the purists. Then again, I'd imagine if they threw it in a rack, people would b***h about how it's more limited than a LP.

I think this is a good point.Synthazaiser wrote:Really neat that Moog is actually going through with this but only one octave? really? I mean, you don't need 61 pedals, but even the original taurus was C - F. I feel so limited when I play an organ with this small of a pedalboard. If you're not in the key of C it's really a pain in the a*s. An octave and a fourth like the original would be ok and I think two would be ideal.
Fusing the LP design on it probably makes sense, since they must have plenty of those parts needed already in stock. I'm just a bit skeptic about people pre-ordering these things and expecting more or less an exact replica of the original sound. Moog caters a lot to the prog / 70s revival -consumer base, so if they're just going to get a "cut-down LP in a bass pedal format", it might raise a few strong reactions. Although, If it's supposedly a "Moog Taurus", then why should it be in the rack format without the pedals? That would be basically just some other synth.

Re: Moog Taurus III picture
It's not a cut down LP. It's the original Taurus circuitry, with the control part of the LP integrated. Very clever IMHO.
I think it's unlikely that this is the final production model. to make pedals with the same range as the original, they will probably have to manufacture those. I'm guessing those pedals are Italian.
It might not even be a real Moog picture, it's completely unverified.

Re: Moog Taurus III picture
The original Taurus was only one octave C-C with octave transpose button. The Taurus II was octave & half C-F.Synthazaiser wrote:Really neat that Moog is actually going through with this but only one octave? really? I mean, you don't need 61 pedals, but even the original taurus was C - F.

Re: Moog Taurus III picture
I stand corrected. But I still think more pedals would be useful.

That's one of the nicest looking synths I've seen in a long time.

So are you meant to program it with your feet too?
Moog LP + Casio SK1 and MT-75 + tube amp = good tone.
Re: Moog Taurus III picture
Damn! this thing weighs 20 kilogrammes?? That would be the single biggest reason not to get one of these...

44 pounds. that's not too bad, in my opinion.

Re: Moog Taurus III picture
I just weighed my orignal Taurus pedals: 30 pounds. Seems a little heavy, but not uncomfortable.

So, that looks pretty neat. But i keep wondering, what is so special about the Taurus sound? Are there concrete differences between these machines and other Moog products, past and preset? Unique waveforms, filter types, specifications? I am indeed curious.

Re: Moog Taurus III picture
Assuming the Moog Taurus III synthesizer architecture is based on the first Taurus, it is indeed a unique synthesizer with a unique sound. The oscillators are nothing special but the filters and vca and envelopes are unique.Neonlights84 wrote:Are there concrete differences between these machines and other Moog products, past and preset?
