Doepfer Dark Time

Post by Duncanperson » Sun Dec 20, 2009 2:02 am

Just saw this on the Dark Energy page on the Doepfer website "Planned expansion for 2010 (without obligation): Dark Time"
Image

Looks interesting, nice small compact step sequencer... what do you people think? I know it's not definite at this point, but I think it would be pretty cool, might do quite well - considering the amount of hype the dark energy got.... It would certainly go nicely with one of those new SEMs :D

Wow, this actually looks really cool, hope they get the priceing right though - mind you, this exact type of sequencer can be made by DIY'ers without too much effort.

Oh yeah, that would be a damn nice combo ;)

Shame, I would be really cool to sit one of these and a moog CP-251 on top of an MS-20 but I guess it'll only be v/oct.

That was my first thought as well. Cool, but this kind of thing can easily be DIY'd, especially so with all the many different PCB sets available these days.

Though I realize for the majority it won't matter as DIY is not something many like to do even if they have to pay 10x+ as much for some preassembled kit. ;)
.....i have some things that create and sculpt sound.

Looks like next-year is going to be a year of step-sequencers!

Colin Fraser's - Cirklon (although still in planning phase)

Analogue Solutions - Europa (looks MAM-ish with a bit of Electribe thrown in!)

Cool, it probably wont be super cheap just because knobs, jacks, switches are the expensive components. However, I can't see why it would be much differently priced than the dark energy. While there are many similar DIY options this is nice cause its a professional looking slick package.

I do know there is also talk of Doepfer doing a expansion module for the Dark Energy called Dark Matter which will have noise, second VCO, second envelope, multimode VCF, S&H, VCLFO with reset, attenuators and some more functions.

Statement from Dieter Doepfer "The Dark Time is still in the design state and the picture is a very early preliminary. I assume
that the Dark Time will be in the same price range as the Dark Energy (without obligation). It will be available not before spring 2010."
