Lead sound breakdown
I'm looking for some help in creating something similar to the Minimoog lead sound at 0:33 in this video
I know I need to experiment, but if someone could give me a nudge in terms of waveforms, modulations, etc. it would be helpful.

Re: Lead sound breakdown
Start with a couple of slightly detuned saw waves and set the filter about halfway open with a tiny bit of resonance; the amp EG should be set with a little bit of attack and release and sustain should be all the way up (in which case decay is irrelevant); route a bit of LFO to pitch via the mod wheel or aftertouch, turn on portamento, and that should just about do it.
"Sure that's fine in practice, but what about in theory?"

Yeah, I just naturally assumed he'd be using something other than a minimoog.pflosi wrote:that should be rather difficult on a minimoog

I'm using my MG-1, so no mod wheel OR aftertouch

I had never heard or Eric Norlander until I viewed this thread. He's a contemporary "master of the MiniMOOG" -- a slightly less technical, yet more accessible, Keith Emerson -- and he was born the same year as me. I really like his mix of MiniMOOG, A6 Andromeda, Hammond Model D organ, and Mellotron on the Rocket Scientist tracks.
Thanks.

Re: Lead sound breakdown
I noticed the player in the video appeared to be wiggling his fingers while playing. Maybe he wished he had aftertouch?pflosi wrote:that should be rather difficult on a minimoogBig Gnome wrote:route a bit of LFO to pitch via ... aftertouch

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
Re: Lead sound breakdown
I can't decide what to think about him. He's consistently billed as 'virtuoso' but I don't hear that in his playing. However, his playing is tasteful, fits the songs, and his sounds are excellent. I really enjoy the Rocket Scientists albums.ronP wrote:oo

yeah. then realizing, "oh, right, it's the mod wheel that does that sound"meatballfulton wrote:I noticed the player in the video appeared to be wiggling his fingers while playing.
