PAiA expands the 9700 series

Post by meatballfulton » Fri Mar 05, 2010 2:39 pm

Good news, pAiA has announced a whole new set of Frac Rack modules for their 9700 system. In particular there are the sorely needed mixers and multiples plus a S&H, envelope follower, audio input/preamp. Very cool!!!

More info here.

I guess this means one could purchase the newly available 9745k mixer module and prevent the nasty overloading of the paia 9700 filters by the VCOs?

Yep, if they had these a couple of years ago I might still own a 9700 :?

The linear/expo converter should make Korg MS owners happy.

The text suggests they were reengineered quite a bit. They use some surface mount parts so the boards come with those already installed, you have to do the through hole parts and final wiring.

Note that none of the kits top $70!!! Assembled ones are all under $100...that's cheap compared to any other vendors.

Brad (Paia owner) brought these into the shop. Design and build quality are a definite improvement over the 9700. They are working on an adapter for Eurorack, too. Haven't heard how the modules sound yet though. Hopefully the filter sound from the 9700 is retained. I love that filter.

Have they done any upgrades to the filter? I remember reading that it would go into saturation when the resonance was turned up producing a nasty squelch at certain frequencies. In fact, that's one of the reasons I never bought a 9700 (the other being a tracking problem with the LM13600 exponential converter).
And then she said, "What the f...?"

Going back over the modules online, I realized that there aren't any new oscillator or filter modules in the new set. Hopefully they are in the works.
