Prophet 5 or not?

Post by ted1986 » Fri Mar 05, 2010 5:05 pm

Hi all,

I was just listening to a cheesy mid 80s track "Spend The Night" by The Cool Notes and I think I hear Prophet 5 as the main pad for the song. Am I right or wrong? Also, is there some DX7 action in there too?

Listen to the track here:

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

ted ;)

My guess is no Prophet 5. On the video clip (to the right in the related videos section) you can see a Roland at 2:29 (although I can't tell for sure what it is, maybe a Juno-106).

Since it came out in 1985 the DX-7 is a good possibility.

That is a Juno-106.

The main pad (playing the chords) does sound Juno-ish to my ears.
Two VCO: thanks to the push rods, one can choose several forms of waves at the same time!

the fake performances aren't always indicative of the actual equipment used. most of the gear up there was probably stage props. the juno isn't plugged in and neither is the KX-5 keytar.

but yeah, those pads sound mighty juno-ish to me.

Not a P5. 106 is a good guess.

Another voice to the chorus agreeing it sounds like a Juno.
Gear List: A bunch that go 'WHHONNGG!', several that go 'tweedle tweedle' and 'thumpity', and a few that don't make any noise at all but have lots of delightful little lights on them.
