Good electrical engineering books on synthesizers

Post by serv » Thu Apr 01, 2010 4:21 pm

Does anyone know of good electrical engineering books on hardware synthesizers?

I want books that go pretty deep into mathematics and electronics behind hardware synths, not just overview of it.

You'll have better luck looking into general electronics and realizing how it applies to synths. PWM controls all, from the hazard lights in your car to the motor in your electronic tooth brush. :D

That's the bible for this sort of thing. Some of the circuits in Chamberlin are pulled from Electronotes.

Aaron Lanterman's online lectures are great, just google him.

Music Synthesizers - A manual of design and construction by Delton T. Horn

Gives examples of each synth circuit and breaks down its operation, a good reference even when looking to build some synth modules.

A great book about OP amps, filters, oscillators and such which can be applied to the understanding of synths from a solid math standpoint is:

Anyhow, Electronotes and the Chamberlin book are great references and there is some great stuff to be found at:
