Prophet 08 Conversion

About 6 months ago I found a great deal on an older Prophet 08. Unfortunetly, it does not have the upgraded potentiometers, which I can really tell would vastly improve this wonderful synth.

Anyone here had the upgrade done? Any suggestions or experiences you could share would be most appreciated.
I know there are 2 versions; DIY and Factory, but I don't feel comfortable with using a soldering gun with my baby.

I need to do something soon, the random value shifts and changes are driving me bananas.

I don't actually have an 08, but have thought about doing the same thing you have. It depends on your serial number; if it is above 1680 then you don't have to do any soldering, otherwise you do. Obviously do it yourself if there's no soldering necessary. Here's the link to the pdf on their website with all the details on everything to do it: http://davesmithinstruments.com/downloa ... ctions.pdf

Though from looking at that pdf, if you do have to do any soldering, you only have to remove two surface mount components then short them together with a lead.

From what I've read people that had a regular 08 then switched to pots loved it.

I had the same issues as you are having - maybe worse with the changing and jumping encoders. After 2 shots of deoxit in 5 months I posted my issues on another bd. where Chris @ DSI read it. Long story short, I emailed Tracy @ DSI told her that the first 2 shots of deoxit did not fix the issues and they sent me 2 new encoder bds. These new ones are fantastic, no jumping params when playing, I can actually dial in number without wondering what the values will actually do when I turn the encoder. My serial number is under 620 so it probably had the bad encoder batch. These new encoders are very firm and feel very much higher quality. DSI has to have if not the best, one of the best customer service policies of any company, not just synth maker. My P 08 is a joy to program and play again, they are also working on a new OS upgrade. I hope you contact Tracy and see how they will help you out, she (well all of them) are wonderful ppl. who truly value their customers.

Before you go asking Tracy for a date, I just wanted to give you the heads up that he's a dude.

I thought I'd update this post, having recently (and finally!!) upgraded the p08. It was really very easy, and my tech pal let me use his workshop + soldering tools. Was a snap, and has turned this synth into what I expected it to be. I highly recommend having your Prophet converted.
