New universal patch editor for Roland JX series

Post by Trom69 » Wed Apr 07, 2010 9:53 am

Painting with Sound is coming with this universal "Patch Editor" for the Roland JX-3P, 8P, Juno-1, MKS-70 and MKS-80 (for now).
It also works with Korgs DW8000/6000, and will cost € 395 (a little salty...).

"as well as handle midi control of midi and sysex capable keyboards."

Seems it will be/can be expanded to control a lot more than just JX boards, which makes sense as a PG-800 is less than $300 USD.

Closer to $400, if recent ebay transactions are any guide...

Last prices I saw were €250/250/350 for the PG200/300/800.
So yeah, I think $395 is fair for a new, dedicaded editor.

If it can be used for as many boards as they claim, how can it be a "dedicated" editor? There are parameters on the JX's that are not on the DW's, and vice versa.

If it really is nothing more than a gussied-up generic Sysex editor, then that's an extremely steep price for one. Yeah, it's got the controls nicely laid out, but for which synth exactly?

Rather just pick up a couple of kenton control freak 16-slider boxes -- 2 of them for under the price of this one unit.

i think its just a "gussied-up generic Sysex editor"

it probably takes a "least common denominator" approach for any synth it controls.

If it was $100 cheaper many more people would buy it.

The studio I work at has both the Juno 1 and DW6000... sure would be nice to have a universal editor that didn't have an learning curve/set-up that customers won't have the time to deal with in a session.
