Re: 303 tracks that aren't acid
It's dance-oriented but I wouldn't call this "acid".
Don't know if they used a 303 or a similar sounding synth, the year was 1993.

What did you mean by mixed response? I just listened to the track, I thought that part was the icing on the cake.

That track is crazy.Zamise wrote:Nothing great but something I did for a VSEF contest that didn't quite get off the ground a while back, all sourced from an 808 and 303:

I like the 303 near the end too! Maybe some of the dubtechno purists didn't go for it? Trond, it fits in fine IMO!monolith wrote:They doTrondC wrote:woops, meant to write "303-SOUND"yeah I don't own a 303, but I guess clones should count in this thread, no?

Ha, the first few bars I thought it was an acid cover of "Three blind mice"

Re: 303 tracks that aren't acid
is section 25 "looking from a hilltop" a 303?

it seems to offend you, if you quoted my statement. It doesn't offend me one bit, but a 303 is a 303, and it's not when it's a clone. You can call it that "303 sound" but it's never quite there, although the x0xb0x nearly nails it.monolith wrote:Why even point that out? Does it offend you as a 303 owner?
Novation Bass-Station = clone
Deep Bass Nine = clone
MB-383 = clone
Acidlab Basslines = clone
x0xb0x = clone
TBX-303 = clone
none of these have the 303's unique sequencer entry and time-mode note length function (which is the 303's main factor for strange pattern creation and weird lines and that constant slide)
Yes, they used a 303 in a few of their tracks.colmon wrote:is section 25 "looking from a hilltop" a 303?

eh, not really, it just seemed kinda pedantic, obvious and unnecessary. Everyone knows a 303 is a 303.Syn303 wrote: it seems to offend you, if you quoted my statement. How do you rate the clones? Does the FR revolution come close?Syn303 wrote: Novation Bass-Station = clone

Re: 303 tracks that aren't acid
Only clones i have had are the Novation Bass Station, FR Revolution both Mk1 and Mk2 and the x0xb0x.monolith wrote:How do you rate the clones? Does the FR revolution come close?
The FR Revolution has a more liquidy sound and you can get higher up in the note ranges, more than the 303 even when pitched up to the highest C, if you wanted high end squeaks or burbles. Overall the Revolution is a nice sounding machine, but it's dinner plate size takes up a lot of space, Jered could have made the thing a lot smaller imo. Just an awful waste of space on that panel and inside it.
But for the most nearly accurate sounding clone that would go to the x0xb0x. And it's more compact in size.

Re: 303 tracks that aren't acid
I don't think the FR Revo is very accurate although it can get close with a lot of work. I have two of the Revo 2's and I absolutely love the way they sound but they are lacking a bit in authenticity. they have a mushy attack and the tone is just little too "soft" to be 100% on point. the great thing about the Revo's is that they sit in a mix very well and can be layered on top of other synths without turning the mix into mud.monolith wrote: How do you rate the clones? i've said this before and been laughed at, but I think the TBX-303 sounds awesome. not even close to authentic but that box cries out a sweet acid tone. the only problem is that the price of the TBX is pretty much "full on retard" and you know what they say about that!

Re: 303 tracks that aren't acid
beat me to it! I think it is a 303. sounds like it to me, and the wiki page says so(not that the wiki is any final word). but just listen to the liquid quality of the filter. great song.Syn303 wrote: Orange Juice - Rip It Up (supposedly a TB-303, but reported as being actually a Minimoog?)

I thought those only happened in the mid-60's!Yatmandu wrote:Bwahahaha, an "Acid Hose" party!
I heard a 303 prominently on a non-live Chemical Brothers bootleg album called 'AuGmEnTeD' yesterday.
Gear List: A bunch that go 'WHHONNGG!', several that go 'tweedle tweedle' and 'thumpity', and a few that don't make any noise at all but have lots of delightful little lights on them.

A reggae head may correct me...
I know Michael Rose (from Black Uhuru) has a reggae dub track that uses a 303, I'm just not sure which one.
I think it's
Michael Rose - No Burial Dub
