I remember when I first got samples of 606 hits sometime in the 90s, all I could think was "what a useless snare".

In retrospect it's a cool sound of course, but on many tracks it just doesn't really fit the mix. The Smashing Pumpkins track is an example of that. It just sounds like one of those tracks where they must have thought "oh, wouldn't it be cool if we used this thing on it", instead of using something that would complement the song a bit better. It's a nice song, though.

there is tr 606 here .These very kool electro guys are from my home city and even took the 606 into there name .Alpha 606!

606 is on some of the early plastikman releases i think...

individual outs is a big problem. the hats and snare are really perfect sounding though. the kick really benefits from modification though. there could be a few more sounds (claps, rim).

the sequencer is definitely the most user friendly of the series for me.

I like the 606 as it is. After at least fifteen years of tolerating the individual output mod someone had clumsily done, I removed it and just use the mix out. As for modding the tone, well, I suppose it's cheaper than an 808 but really I prefer to leave gear is it was intended and if I want a different sound, I'll use a different machine. The 606 is great for light, tight rhythms. It has a strange mixture of precision and looseness. It doesn't go with everything, that's true, but what does?

the 606 i have now has individual outputs and the tonal mods so i can make it sound pretty much as i want it to. The kick mod is the most important imo. I really like the snare too, especially with the mods.

the one thing is, on the 606 I had before this one, the hihats were sooooo nice, the new one doesn't seem to sparkle as much in the hats.

I often thought it would be worth using a few 606's together to allow separation of individual drum sounds. In an ideal world i'd have 808 kick, 606 hats and snare and if i could find one, one of the Boss HC units for claps.

either way, i'm thankful they aren't stupidly priced. 606 FTW!!!!

I like the way the hats interact with each other on the 606, all-in-all it's a good little drum machine, and the feature most prominent about is that you can switch between write and play while it's running, and it's the only Roland drum machine made that does so.

They say the 606 is more industrial sounding at times, but put through reverb and the like it can sound like a big drum machine. The 606 is what you could call the little brother of the 808. Mine has the separate outputs mod, a great way to process each drum sound on an individual basis.

It's a drum machine i like very much, despite the fact that i seldom use it these days - no thanks to the MD-UW of course.

Where could I get this individual out mod done at a reasonable rate? I am not interested in any other mods though. Hopefully something that will keep the same sound but just allow for outboard processing,

I'm the one who helped him with the kick drum and toms mods back in January '09. I was really impressed when he released that video, because he got the pitch tunings for most of them to go much higher than I was able to.

The hats mod has both a bandpass and highpass filter mod. I'd guess the highpass value got changed. I only did the bandpass, myself.

Also, if you havent checked out this album yet, I would definitely recommend it for very obvious examples of 606 drums. One of the best applications of the 606 I can think of....

I just got the Nightmare on Elm Street Blu-Ray and noticed there's a TR606 featured briefly in the scene near the end where Nancy douses Freddy with Kerosene and lights him on fire. I'm betting since Charles Bernstein did the score in his home studio, he must have been quite the gear hound.

At the risk of being sacreligious, I actually like the 606 better than the 808.

I coudl go on and on about battery power, portability, the sounds, etc but I won't do that now...

I had a 606 for a couple of weeks. I felt obligated to get one after I got an 808. My DIN/Sync kick with the 707 which is also now gone. Even though I would still make love to my 808 if could, I think I expected too much out of the 606 and 707.

If I didn't have a Soundmaster ST-305 I may have liked it but the Soundmaster was crazily my first drum machine, they're quite similar except I like the toms and cymbal way better on the Soundmaster plus individual outs, bla bla bla. But you never here about ST-305's because you rarely see them. Those that have them rarely sell them because they aren't worth anything. If they were suddenly worth 1k or something. The market would flood with them.

But I'm weird. I like the Kawai R-100 way better than the 707 too.
