Korg Radias price drop to $699

Post by meatballfulton » Mon Jun 14, 2010 7:17 pm

So far I've seen this only at AMS, Sweetwater and zzounds, but they now have the Radias module selling for $699. MF and NovaMusik still show it at $999.

The keyboard version is not listed any more.

Time to buy if you've been sitting on the fence, this is cheaper than eBay prices.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

GC was blowing them out 2 years ago for $695 and I haven't seen a new Radias since - not that I was looking that hard for one.

not a bad deal for a pretty amazing VA.

i picked up mine locally used for cheaper than that - they seem to be plentiful on the used market.

That price drop brings it into the 'realistic' range from 'ridiculously overpriced'. I mean, you can get an MEK for $1000 if you look hard enough - that much for a Radias rack is pretty loony.

It's OK - I didn't cotton to its sound much, and it really is just a blown-out MS2000, which is fine if you like the MS2000 enough to want to pay for the extra features. I would think that for most people a used MS2000 would be sufficient at less than half the (now current) price of the Radias. I've been through both and wouldn't consider buying another at this point.

So this makes me wonder, what is Korg going to pull out of the woodwork next?

I had a really good time with the radias while I had it. This was a number of years ago when I was first introduced to synthesizers so I didn't know how to edit sounds very much. But it sounded way different than the ms2k. Especially because it had double the parts. 4part VA versus 2part VA makes a huge difference. So I wouldn't call it a "blown-out" ms2k so much as a gutted, improved and rebuilt ms2k.

i bought it in late 06 when it was still expensive, i paid like a grand for it. but considering i paid twice that for the virus ti, the virus isn't really twice as good, so it's overpriced-ness is totally subjective. plus can you really compare it to the mek? i was under the impression that that was a different animal? maybe i'm wrong.
This looks like a psychotropic reaction. No wonder it's so popular...

It sounds like its CLOSE OUT time for the Radias, goodbye. Just a blown out MS2000? I don't know, the Radias is 4 part the MS2000 was not, as previously posted. The MS2000 always struck me as a toy synth, not to be taken seriously. The Radias seems capable enough if you need a VA and don't want to pay to lot for it. I probably won't buy another VA synth. I have an Alesis ION, never had a problem with it and it does what I need it to do for my LIVE KB rig. The best user interface in a small synth I ever saw or owned. Analog synths sound fatter and gutsy compared to any VA.

Perspective and price, thats all.

Not directed at you personally, but I never quite get what people mean by this, you can make good music with just about anything. And you don't have to take music or an instrument seriously to make good music either.
I personally quite like the sound of the MS-2000/Microkorg and the radias/R3.
I'm really in love with sound of my EA-1 at the moment, not wanting it to make 303, Moog or SH-101 sounds - I'm simply getting really inspiring (for me) EA-1 sounds.

By not taking an instrument 'seriously' one is only limiting themselves.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but the MICRO Korg is the toy, not the MS2000. Sorry about that. I don't get a rise out of the small keys.
