Yeah I like the look of the Gaia. I just wish it weren't white, I'm not a fan of white synths.

In fact, the Gaia looks better than it sounds :P

The Poly-800 with the reverse-coloured keys is a pretty hideous one.

Actually, it just looks sort of hilarious.

I've never liked the looks of an Andromeda, but I wouldn't call it necessarily ugly. It's just tasteless.

Not really a synth, but the original blue MPC 1000. It gives me a headache just by looking at it.

So ugly I think it actually has gone full circle and now looks kinda appealing in a mad 80s toy kinda way.
yesss i thought of this one soon as i saw the title of this thread. absolutely hideous.

as for Roland Gaia, i don't find it ugly. i think it has inviting design and UI. however i don't find its sound very appealing, perhaps a notch or two above its predecessor SH-201, which was most terrible sounding VA synth ive ever heard.

YS-200 just might have it. Otherwise there's this monstrosity:

mmm, Yeah I'll admit it is much better than the 201, just hate the fluro colored buttons - and white synths are getting old now - I'm just over it. Only the Virus Polar really manages to pull it off with any class IMO (and that's more silver-ish).

I don't agree that the Microkorg is ugly, it's not beautiful but its not supposed to fit in with todays design ethic, its a 70s pastiche. A lot of people buy it because they want something that looks and sounds a bit like a Minimoog or other vintage synth, to the eyes and ears of ordinary people not synth nerds like you (and me). I like the fact that it practically has the instructions printed on the front panel, it makes it so much easier to program than other micro synths. I love it when a synth has 'sciencey' looking text or diagrams on the control panel, the MS2000 is perfect in terms of looks. Korg's designs are all over the place though, some good some bad. I think the Karma looks weird, a sort of metallic blood red. The Radias is completely bonkers but I wouldn't say no if someone wanted to give me one.

That YS200 cracks me up.

I don't think factory synths ever look as bad as what satan-worshiping,
meth-hitting, artisan-challenged owners do to modify the appearances.

IMHO there are no ugly synths...just like there are no ugly women. Choice and variety are far better than cookie-cutter monotony and conformity.
All I ask is that you have a little respect for the rare vintage stuff.

EDIT: The original Alesis Qudrasynth was a little too monochromatic. Anybody remember Thomas Dolbys Casio AZ-1 controler? Looked like it had been pulled from the ashes after a nuclear war.

There may not be any ugly synths, but there sure are ugly women.

I rather liked Dolby's black AZ-1.

I hang around with quite a few aspiring-artist goat-worshipping hillbillies.
Er...quite a few of these are from Matrixsynth. There's no shortage of custom nut-jobs out there.

My Mini Moog was butt-ugly when I bought it. Some idiot had painted it with flat black paint. This happened a lot in the 80's when analog synths with wood on them were considered old-fashioned and ugly.
