Are doepfer patch cables notoriously bad?

I've had my modular system for about 2.5 years. Sure, there's some wear and tear on my patch cables but I've lately noticed that about half of them have gone bad. Is this the normal lifespan for doepfer patch cables? Is there a better/more durable brand out there? Perhaps I should just solder my own?

I've mine for about 3 years, they still work fine.

Do you clean them with contact cleaner?
