Most physically attractive synths

Post by thefonz003 » Sun Sep 19, 2010 2:54 am

I was already thinking about starting this thread, and reading through the one on "ugliest synths" clinched it. So what are the most physically attractive (in your opinion, of course) synths (be it because of color scheme, knobs and sliders, or wood panels)?

A few of my picks:

Ensoniq Fizmo (I'm weird enough to like the color scheme)
Moog Source (looks kinda like the math version of Speak-n-Spell)
Korg Triton (love the silver)
Yamaha EX-5

Also, on the topic of ugly synths, I honestly don't think the Yamaha Motifs are that physically attractive. From what I've heard of them they sound wonderful, but they just don't appeal much to me in terms of looks.

A few more:

Roland D50
Kurzweil K2600 (the purple one)
Yamaha DX-1
Korg DW-8000 and DSS-1
Roland JD-800 (so funky-looking, but might not like it if I had one)
Akai AX-80
Roland JX-3P (near the top of my all-time list in that category)

Moog voyagers, love the backlights and certain colour schemes (black and blue backlight so far the favourite)

Roland Jupiter 6 - absolute best looking
SCI Prophet 5 - can't get more classic than that. of all the synths with wood, this is it.
Waldorf XTk - i know i know but can't resist orange, one of my favorite colours
Oberheim Matrix 12 - cold, clean, perfect
moog source - space age beauty
Roland Jupiter 8 - aluminum panels, late 70s space lab look, colour buttons..
Fairlight IIx and III
Nord Leads

Mopho keyboard.

And I'd vote for the V-synth (original) because of the useful and beautiful design of the sides, plus of course all those lights and beams and stuff. BUT I hate the way the brushed metal feels. I don't like touching it at all.

Next thread - most beautiful synths by touch.... :D

I think that could be part of this thread anyway cos physical attraction is more than beauty, and has a lot to do with the tactile experience.

My picks

JD800
M1 (01/w also updated those curves nicely)
Trinity
Jupiter 6
Prophet 5

Like the look of but not the touch so much

JP8000
Karma

A vote for the Juno 6 then - its in the lounge and gets a regular dusting. Feels nice and tool like. Like a well balanced hammer.
Anyone want to up the synth fetishist element?
