Minimoog and Taurus bass pedals were all Geddy had then.

I found the following info on some old Rush site:

" On the title track, Hugh Syme and Geddy played an ARP synthesizer (micke: presumably an ARP 2600) at the start of the piece. The effect was achieved in one take creating feedback with an envelope generator. Terry then treated it with echo and reverb.

Hugh Syme's contributions to the album were not limited to a synthesizer effect. He once again made an important graphic contribution to the band's image and played on the album, the first time an outsider played on a Rush record. He worked on the studio production 'Tears'. On the song he filled up three tracks with Mellotron parts, mimicking strings, a French horn and flutes."

The song/album was apparently recorded at the end of 1975 and I don't think Geddy had a Minimoog until after the album
was completed.
"The (Yamaha) CS-80 is a step ahead in keyboard control, and a generation behind in digital control" -- Dan Wyman, Jan 1979

Yeah, I think he acquired the Mini at some point in 1975 after 2112 was released. They apparently previewed some of the Farewell to Kings stuff towards the end of the 2112 tours.

If you check this site out http://www.rushtrader.com/rush.htm you can learn a little bit more about their tours and when tracks were debuted and such. Good on ye, Micke! I'd always assumed that was a MiniMoog. VH1 Classics recently aired the 2112/Moving Pictures episode of Classic Albums and Terry Brown (the band's producer at the time) backs up that quote but never mentions which synthesizer they used.

I saw Rush about ten days ago in Houston and the synth sounds, while not being 100% faithful to the recordings, were certainly better than the last time I saw them (1991). Whatever Geddy is triggering from his main keyboard definitely has more of the OB-X sound than it had before. From the audience it looked V-Synth to me, but I never got a real close shot. Both Geddy and Alex are using Little Phatties onstage. Alex is using his as a MIDI controller for something offstage (when I saw them he was playing the chords in the chorus of "Time Stand Still" with it, and we all know he's not chording with that synth!) but still cool to see him playing synths live. Geddy used his for the "Tom Sawyer" and "Subdivisions" solos, but I was kinda disappointed in the tone he pulled up. I know you can make the LP rip and call up his MiniMoog sounds because if I can do it anyone can do it. I thought maybe they might be using the new Taurus 3 on this tour but it didn't look like it.

I'll check my biography but from memory...

Geddy got his Taurus and Mini right before they started working on A Farewell to Kings in 1976/77. I have seen footage from before then with him using the Taurus (December 10, 1976 Capitol Theater -- Passaic, New Jersey)...

Just found the vid.

They recorded AFtK in June of 77.

I couldn't find an exact date for the recording of 2112... but, based on tour-dates, it had to have been around January/february of 1976. The Wiki page is wrong.

My copy of the Rush "Visions" biography confirms the above info of the 2112 intro being an ARP.

You sure about that? I had the good fortune to have very close seats at the San Antonio show and his pedal setup sure didn't look like a taurus - looks like the same custom setup Tony Geranios has had for him for some time now.

In Houston the Diamondvision gave us a real nice closeup of Geddy's pedals when he was playing the oompah introduction to "La Villa Strangiato" and it sure didn't like a Taurus 3 to me. Maybe Alex is using one though.
