Alesis MMT8 bpm problem

Post by omvibes » Sat Nov 13, 2010 9:53 am

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Alesis MMT8. It seems that its bpm reading is not correct, i.e. you set it to for example 120, and it is somewhere around 118bpm. Its been checked against a computer, metronome etc, and there is definitely an issue (even with my possibly dodgy rhythmic playing!)

My set up is: Nord electro 3 controller out to the MMT8 (powered by a generic adaptor), then back into a Midi Solutions router, splitting the signal (as per keyboard split set-up) to the NE3 and a Creamware Minimax.

Anyone come across this before, or can tell me what the problem might be? Don't want to really retire the unit, as its a joy to use, apart from the bpm issue.

Thanks for your help! OM

Switch the Alesis to internal clock only.

Hello, hello, is there anyone out there? Wow, I got a reply to my thread four years after posting it... :-))
Well, I still have the MMT8, but I never was able to sync it in with the other bpm sources, so it was semi-retired. Will change it to internal clock only, and see what happens....

I just got a Alesis MMT-8 after watching -
"Should You Buy a 30 Year Old Sequencer Today? | Alesis MMT-8 Review"
by [Synths and Sounds].

This youtube.com video is awesome. I think it references this discussion.
I found a program to accurately check the BPM rate of MIDI devices.

MIDICLOCKDETECT
Software by Serge D.
http://midiclock.com
http://midiclock.com/midiclockdetect-v1-01/
MIDICLOCKDETECT can be used for diagnosing MIDI devices.
The BPM rate of the real time MIDI clock signal is detected.
Then calculated and shown on screen.
