The most expensive "synth" I've bought is the Hammond XK3 / XK System with a new Leslie 3300. About $7.5k if I count the custom cases I had fabricated for it. But it's paid for itself many times over with gigs and recordings since 2006.

Second would be the Andromeda, which I probably paid too much for and I'm still paying for in terms of my wife's ire. $3500.

Third would be the Moog Voyager Signature Edition. $2500.

Fourth would be the Yamaha SY77 back in 1991 or so, though technically my dad bought that since I was what, 14? But I did have to help finance it by selling some of my own stuff. $2k.

Fifth would be the Yamaha Motif ES rack; something like $1100 new.

I've also been lucky to come across some real bargains, though, including two free Hammond B3s (a 1958 and a 1974), a free Hammond A100, and a couple free Leslies.

No wonder I'm broke. :)

I hope to purchase a Yamaha Motif XF6 or XF7 by the end of this year.

AE Voyager w/Moog Custom Case in 03' for $2900.00. I knew I should wait for the resale market, but alas bought as soon as it dropped. Took me 2 years to pay off, then sold it to put towards a wedding/wedding ring. Bought an EB Voyager in 09' for $1300.

The Yamaha SY85. It was £1650 Irish new in 1992, that's the equivalent of €2128. That was a lot of cash back then, I saved for a quite a while, originally for a Korg T3 or 01Wfd, but they were both over £2000, so I'd probably never have got there!

They were all probably 30% or so cheaper in the UK or Germany, there were no online dealers back then, so they could charge what they liked. Thankfully things have changed!

Hartmann Neuron. I feel better now, seeing the price of catching the modular bug.

I would like to try John Bowen's Solaris, but don't feel like shelling out ahead of time to wait six months for delivery only to find out I don't like it.

Same with the new Korg Kronos. Seems like an amazing amalgamation of Everything Anyone Has Ever Wanted In A Keyboard But Got Tired Of Asking For It, without seemingly contributing anything new and startling. I mean, it has MS-20 and PolySix engines built in, as two of the Fabulous Nine Synth Engines. I already have those as part of the $200 Korg Legacy package. If they had come up with something New, it might be worth a look, but not now, and not for the assumed five grand or thereabouts it will finally appear to cost. If by some miracle it shows up below two grand, they won't be able to keep them in stock. Kind of like a Ferrari with a VW price tag.

12-bit JP-8 with MD8 for $3600 in May 2007 - more of a disappointment than anything else, even more so than the TB303 I bought for $700 in 2002, which I still have and never use

sold 3 years later with little regret
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.
