I like it a lot. As promised, it is kinda like an updated Linn Drum and with analog. It seems like you can load samples but not record samples. Maybe that's what he's getting at in the video. Hooray for them. Nice design, nice footprint. Lots of really good options. Very useful as a drum machine or synth. Could be kinda PolyEvolver or Sunsyn like in a way. So in a way this is like repackaging all the current DSI products again.

That said it's too expensive. I watched the video in another forum before hunting down the price and was thinking it to be in the 1299-1499 range. Possibly at 999 given the recent price of DSI's Mopho and Tetra.

With that kind of price tag I'll just stick with my current machines and analog sound makers. If I didn't have them all this might be a strong consideration. Would be a tough decision for anyone thinking of buying a machinedrum right now. Giving it similar capabilities to the UW engine on the Machinedrum may have justified the 1999 price a little more.

But it doesn't suck. As opposed to 99.9% of new workstations and grooveboxes coming out right now. Just showing that Korg, Yamaha, Roland etc. should be ashamed of themselves right now.

The price at the moment is around the price mark for a MDUW+MkII in the UK, the higher end of the drum machine range, but still...

grooveboxes/workstation comment hits the nail on the head.
Come on Bennett.... Let's Party!

i see that the interface lets you "play" a pitched sound with the pads, but do you think its possible to plug a keyboard into it and actually play keys?

oops just read the interview:

"Dave Smith: You can already plug in a keyboard and play it as a six-voice analog poly synth. It is definitely dual-purpose in that sense."

good lord that's awesome, if I was any kind of professional musician i'd be all over this thing

I know...if money wasn't an issue, I think I'd be all over it. It is quite a fine sexy machine....IMHO Dave Smith really knows how to come out with unique, fun, and inspiring gear.

fully analog drum machine with 4 OSC's per voice, plus basically a tetra and a half of polysynth playability... Sure 2000$ is more than I would like to pay for it, but it seems like the price is somewhat justified.

I'm really excited to try one of these badboys out.

No one cares, no one sympathizes,
so you just stay home and play synthesizers.

God Damn, God Damn!!!!!

I definately will be looking hard into getting one. I will need to unload some gear to afford it.
I would like to know more about its capabilities for sequencing external gear. The hints to its performance capabilities really have me excited. The sound engine is just jaw dropping.
