Re: New DSI instrument!
This is the first drum machine I've seen in a long time that actually looks interesting. Don't have the cash right now, but I will definitely be looking to save up for it.
Switches, knobs, buttons, LEDs, LCD screens, monitors, keys, mice, jacks, sockets. Now two joysticks!

Re: New DSI instrument!
This absolutely looks like something I would benefit from, and use a whole h**l of a lot. With that said...I would never pay more than $1200 for it.

Re: New DSI instrument!
This article states that another drum machine designed by Dave Smith and Roger Linn will be released this year and sold by Roger Linn Design. I wonder what it has in store?

Re: New DSI instrument!
Roger says the signal is completely analog, but certainly it cannot be if there is a sample section..? It's basically the Evolver in a drum machine, right!

and now the "Gear For Sale" forum will be flooded.
Come on, how many of us immediately thought about gear we could live without, or flip pronto?

Re: New DSI instrument!
Man, my wish list keeps getting longer. Where to put this? Before the Tetra but after the Motif XF?
This thing is a winner. Can't wait to get my hands on one. I'm starting my Tempest savings fund today.

Re: New DSI instrument!
That's the same RRP as the MPC2500, but that has no analogue bits, so it's not all that crazy for a drum machine. (Yes I know the 2500 is a lot more than just a drum machine).vintagesynth wrote:$2,000!!!!I guess this Drum Machine has soul?
It's also less than the Prophet 08, and it's got almost as many voices, a sequencer and a more complex sound engine (HPF + Samples + 5 Envelopes FTW). In fact if you want to compare it to anything it should be the PEK, which is more expensive, has fewer voices and is less complex. Looking at it like that $2,000 is a good deal.

Re: New DSI instrument!
Yes, its $2k...
but a poly evolver rack is $1500 and has *two less voices*...
from a synth standpoint, it has 2 more voices than a PER or PEK.
Oh, and apparently it has a whole drum machine thing going on, too.

Re: New DSI instrument!
The price really doesn't seem out of line to me (not that I can afford it). Jomox Xbase was probably that or more new (almost 2k used), MPC5000 is $2000, I'm sure there are many more examples of similarly priced analog gear.
