Re: New DSI instrument!
I second that!N8-R,
I like your demo the best so far. FWIW.
Re: New DSI instrument!
The thing with the tempest is, most of what its doing isnt drum machine...
Yes I know it can do 'more', but then why market it as one?
The funny thing is from the specs you could make some very valid drum voices with it, but Ive yet to see a video of some deeper drum synthesis on the tempest...
Most of the demos seem to just be using it as a fancy MC303, which is fine by all means (I know some people like it to function as a groovebox), but I really just want someone to make an example of it producing some percussion sounds that make use of the full capabilities of the voice... something a bit fresh, yet something that still has the raw essence of an analog machine..
ie, an envelope and some noise, does not a snare make...
EDIT: I'm just ranting really...

Yep, what a way to say, "This machine doesn't just dice and slice."

I think the reason you see a lot of groovebox demos is that it can do groovebox stuff, which is a first for an analog drum machine (AFAIK). And it's capable of being a full-blown synth, not just a drum machine. Plus demos of just a drum going "BOOM tch BOOM tch BOOM tch" is a bit dull, even if the programer has dug out some sexy new sounds. But yeah, those sexy new sounds are definitely in there...

Ive been hoping to get hold of one to do just that..!GuyaGuy wrote:

But I actually cant afford it at the moment unless I sell my 808, which would just be silly...
I'll get one eventually I imagine, then you'll see..! YOU'LL ALL SEE!!!

Re: New DSI instrument!
mine arrived this morning
managed to make myself super late for work and spend bout 90min on it,
figured out the basics and made a beat with bass and lead synth lines...it absolutely shits all over the sound of my Elecribe (as you would expect for the $$)
I'll post some demos here when i've had a few more hours to get stuck into it!

i havent looked too much into these cause i know ill want one too much but how do they go making gltichy beats that would compare to the machinedrums?
does it have a paremeter lock for serious mangling?

Re: New DSI instrument!
you could definitely do some good beat mangling on the Tempest,
the mod routings and the fx ribbons are awesome.
here's my first effort with the Tempest,
bit of Eventide Space and Kaoss pad in there too.

Re: New DSI instrument!
Thought I'd dig this thread up to share some sounds I worked on over the weekend.
Decided to have a crack at kind of emulating the sound of modular synths/sequencers, (with some pads from a JX3P over the top).
I'm pretty dam pleased with the result.
I've had the Tempest for a few months now, and f**k I love this machine. I've still barely scraped the surface of it's potential in terms of mod routings and havent really played with the sampled VS sounds etc..I just havent felt the need to yet!
It does have a few limitations (only 6 voices..gah!) and some frustrations, since it was released with the software unfinished - Chris on the DSI forum releases a beta update of new software with bug fixes and new feature implementation every few weeks though so they're on the case!

Re: New DSI instrument!
Are there still some timing and sync issues?

Re: New DSI instrument!
Not really sure,
i've havent experienced any problems with syncing..
I remember reading that fixing that was their highest priority, so maybe it's been resolved
