reese dubstep bass
what are the basic prinicples behind the great reese bass ( or the wubwub bass ). i know its a detuned sine wave, but what would be the basic peramiters for a universal synth.
Mopho Key's, Roland sh-32, Korg R3, M Audio Venom, Korg EMX 1, Korg ER 1, and lots of hours in the hole.

it's LFO's controlling filter cutoff and sometimes volume.

"basic parameters for a universal synth"
Your hardware synth has all these parameters too.
Why not USE these Steps on your hardware synth?
If you name the synth you USE- someone can probably tell you THE EXACT BUTTON presses.

Re: reese dubstep bass
All the dubstep wobblebass is, is an LFO modulated filter sound. If your synth has the option for Key Sync on the LFO, use that, as you want the LFO to restart on every note on. It'll help if it has the option for Key Follow as well, then you can get faster or slower modulations as you go up and down the keyboard. Try different filter types as well.

Re: reese dubstep bass
most everyone uses ableton live.
-drag a sound into simpler. turn up the LFO to 100%. turn glide on. set the rate adjustment to be controlled with a knob or slider. and let the fun begin.

I wonder how long it will take dubstep producers/listeners to get sick of time-synced LFO changes?

Re: reese dubstep bass
I'm pretty sure a lot of them already have - it's just that now every other hiphop producer wants to "do dubstep" (as it seems it still has some novelty value, especially in the US), thus filling the internets with even more pointless and overused wobbling. Nothing wrong with playing around, thoughcartesia wrote:I wonder how long it will take dubstep producers/listeners to get sick of time-synced LFO changes?

Re: reese dubstep bass
Those aren't US hip hop producers.
Those are futureproducer beatmakers.
When Dubstep records start coming out, I'll consider it a trend.

Re: reese dubstep bass
There's been dubstep and dubcrap records coming out since some years ago already and all the kewl kieds have taken a shot to it (hence wobbly dubcrap) - I think it's a trend already. Maybe it's not for you in the US

Re: reese dubstep bass
It's not as simple as just modulating the Cutoff with the Lfo, but if he's unable to do that on whatever hardware synth he has right now from following simple instructions he isn't ready for the next step....

Once again, Detroit does it first. From 1988.

Re: reese dubstep bass
Wow Wiglaf... had no idea that sound was that old! So there you go, the origin of the "Reese" (not alex reese) bassline!
More recently, I think it has come to mean a more detuned saw type sound, but then was re-incorporated into a lot of UK speed garage in its original form.
