Found a local ad for a Yamaha CS1X yesterday. The price was $175, and it said the synth was in great condition. I called right away, only to be told that there were two others who had called before me. But lucky for me they weren't serious. So I went and bought it today from a very nice guy some 30km from where I live. He even threw in a new QuickLok stand that seems to be new! Indeed the synth is in excellent condition, everything works great, keys, buttons and pots are nice and tight. Not a bad deal at all.
And after spending an evening with this sexy blue thing, I have come to the conclusion that I LOVE IT! Here is a short demo I made with only the CS1X and the MPC2K with my own vinyl samples. I recorded in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 on my old P266 laptop from 1998.
I have the house for myself for the month and have set up shop in the living room as I had to abandon my old studio room for the needs of the family. Just a temporary solution though. My D-50 is away for repair, finally.
Congrats! It sounds nice & warm. The AN1X always seemed to overshadow it in the forums so I havnt heard much about it.
I love the honeymoon period with a newly purchased instrument, especially when bought cheap & it sounds good & inspiring.
Enjoy your new found space & synth
A seriously gorgeous demo. I LOVE the music. Do you happen to have more stuff like that released any where? I'd love to listen to your music more often if it sounds like this demo...
@rharris07: Thanks! I wish I could say that I have done more in this style, but I have not. I've been computer bound for the last couple of years and haven't really put out much more than remakes and such. To be honest I have felt really, really lost. But with this combo I again feel the creativity and joy of making music I haven't felt since I started out. The CS1x and the MPC go together well and with it's hands-on interface and flexible sound it really is the tool I needed! Together with the D-50 this setup will be my new platform of music.
"You know I love you, CS, but this is bullshit." (Automatic Gainsay)

Nice demo, were they preset sounds?
I got one of these about 9 or 8 years ago for £50, it had a missing cut-off knob which I got from Yamaha for about £2 and then sold it for a lot more and got a Korg M1...I quite liked the CS-1X
The M1 sounded better but I hated the waves in it and the lack of a resonant LPF
The AN-1X on the other hand.....ROCKS!

Loving your livingroom setup
I did a simmilar thing a few days ago
Yes, presets that I tweaked a bit. Actually mine is missing the data knob but that should be an easy fix. Cool that you like the setup, it works out great -for now (-;
You are the same vinyl junkie from youtube? If so, I really dig your work! Especially the house tracks with the MPC!
