I think the biggest mystery in all of this is, who exactly gives a f**k..?

Is anyone actually feeling anything beyond the curiosity of how much they are going to be let down by this announcement.

Every good product they have released in recent times (surprisingly there have been some) has been affected by a ridiculous oversight or lack of support.

Rather than tease us, they should be eager to show us the s**t, just incase they have f**k up again...

They will in 2 weeks time, for a clue, watch 2001, and go to "Jupiter and Beyond The Infinite"

the problem is that everyone thinks this teaser is for them. us VSE folk, who represent about 0.03% of the market, are sure its a re-issued Jupiter-8.

the banjo players are sure Roland has finally made a MIDI banjo.

the karaoke crowd is excited because they want a module that will output the lyrics in High-Def.

who knows who or what it is. but the chances are damn good its not going to be anything any of us could give a s**t about.

Yup, on eBay, click 'Musical Instruments'. Buy ROLAND items has been the first thing in the header bar for god knows how long.

Connect isn't sounding too synthy either, knowing roland's naming systems but you never know. I'd say at the moment it's like a lottery, and it's never us that win. It's going to be a morris dancer or an undeserving karaoke practitioner.

And, thought i recognised that avatar, D-Collector!

Nice ;)

also, the director of marketing for roland should be fired for gross incompetence.

the first thing you learn in marketing 101 class is that giant teaser promotions generate wishful thinking which only leads to consumer disappointment upon product release. no matter how awesome your widget is, it will NEVER live up to what the fevered imaginations of legions of customers can dream up. its a stupid gimmick that hasn't worked since about 1952.

Yeah, but if the music in the clip is anything to go by it should be something synth related.

What do you mean? Does it no longer do what it did when you bought it? Are Roland in some way responsible?

just for the record, i never bought one. but i would suspect that some purchasers bought it under the impression that it would have an ever-expanding line of plug-ins. even the marketing hype called it "future-ready". unfortunately, that future never came. it is almost the same premise as the yamaha CX-5m: "buy this costly hardware now and enjoy all this amazing software we're going to release for it over the next 10 years".

i see your point though. buying something on a future promise is a lousy way to invest in technology. if you aren't happy with the feature set on the day you bought it, you probably shouldn't have.

Yeah, I never buy something for what it might do in the future, I buy for what it can do now. But the Varios had the VC-1 and VC-2 cards released after it came out anyway. Two more synths from it isn't bad.

I think the real problem with the Varios was the limited interface and computer integration needed to use it.

anybody else hear a lot of D50-alikeness in the music for that ad?
