Basically, Version 2 was introduced in 2005 with the V Synth XT. You could give the additional extra software features of the XT to the Keyboard version, which physically remained the same.

Specifically 2.0 was released with a ton of samples and 512 presets made by musicians and sound designers in the industry.

2.0 is the newest OS for the original release of the V-Synth. The XT and GT were released with the 2.0 OS already installed. So if you have an original V-Synth, and have the newest OS installed, it is often referred to a V-Synth 2.0.
Synths:
Avalon Bassline . TB-03 . JU-06 . MX-1 . Blofeld . MicroMonsta . Akai S5000
Drum Machines:
TR-09 . TR-8

Yep, you can. You just have to load a couple of files into the V-Synth via the USB port. The Ver.2 files are freely available at the Roland site.
