Studio Workhorse: the 2011 thread
A bump from the dead resurrected an oldie but a goodie; your studio workhorse. Now, times and technology have changed; but the need for a go-to inspiration or simple basics hasn't.
So, with the thread titled so as not to get bumped in 2013, what's yours?
Mine is the Motif XS6, which is bread'n'butter incarnate, but done well. ATM, however, with the XS6 in storage pending the house move, it's my trusty KX61 and Omnisphere, which I always drag out first on every DAW project.

Hmmm, I don't have a lot of gear to begin with
My an1x is my midi controller and general synthy. In software land I usually open up renoise first. Paul's timestretch is a useful tool too.

Still using my Nord Modular G2 lots and lots. More than 50% of the Fejld album is sounds made in the G2 ( ).
Last weeks I've used the NI Maschine a lot as the G2 is tied up in my live-setup and the Maschine is all I ever wanted the MPCs I've owned to be (500, 1000, 2000, 4000). Very straight-forward and I'm able to get tracks together faster than ever!

Brains, hands, eyes, pen, paper, ESX.
Brains can be used like a "stress ball," but only once.

Ableton Live Suite 8 covers my bread and butter, but inspiration comes from the Eurorack Modular, Eventide Eclipse, Nord Modular G2 and MPC2500.

For software it's Logic at the moment, and for hardware it's got to be the V-Synth

Re: Studio Workhorse: the 2011 thread
Machinedrum, Juno 106 (x2), polysix, DP/4, ableton, a turntable and vinyl. That's pretty much it! I wish the Octatrack was honestly, but I'm not finding it very quick right now... I'm still trying to figure out my workflow with it. I'm sure it will be the center of my setup once it's out of the beta stage.
