question about guitar trackers

so im trying to find the best way to add oscillators to my mixes just using the guitar tracks,
i dont have any real guitar synths but ive been using boss syb5 and a modified boss oc-2 (also i should note its the behringer knockoff of the syb5 and the arion knockoff of the oc-2)

ive noticed a difference between say you run a chord into syb, it tries to decide on one note ends up making a random arpeggio, but if you run a chord into oc-2 it makes a more static noise, or if you run a simple interval it makes a tone similar to a ring modulation. is there a technical name for this difference in tracking? I like the boss octave's version better but i wish it was a stronger sounding oscillator.

which way does the boss syb3 work?

also does anyone know any other pedals or cheap options like this?

my favorite oscillator right now is the casio vl-1, i wouldnt dare mod it unless it could track fine pitch form external output.

Guitar synth pedals (actually the Boss SYB units are for bass guitar) and octave dividers are meant for single note tracking. Playing chords messes with the circuits that try to detect the pitch.

There are some newer octave pedals like the Boss OC-3 that can handle chords, but they are digital (if that's important).

The Electro Harmonix POG pedals are octave pedals with really good tracking, you can play full six-note chords through them afaik.

i don't think i explained myself clearly, I dont want chords, Im more after the auto melodies(as flambouyant as that may seem). basically what I want is the type of modulated and monophonic tones from a boss octave only with a better oscillator. i was hoping the syb3 is this.

No it doesn't. It jumps between all the notes you play really quickly.

sounds like you are looking for an adrenalinn...I'd check out the demo videos, and see if it makes sense...it's a pretty sick little box.

Another inexpensive option would be to drive a synth with a Sonuus G2M. I happen to have one right now that I'd be willing to sell if you're interested. They couldn't be any easier to set up and use. Also you get infinitely more synth sounds than from the Boss pedals (which I've owned as well) and I'd say that the Sonuus tracks much better.

Have you tried the Mooger Fooger pedals? The MF 1O1 filter, MF 1O2 Ringmod, or MF 107 Freq box can give you synthy type of sounds, and the MF 1O5 Murf gives motion to the sound that makes it sound like an arppegio or melody. The Moog Cp 251 gives you greater control over these pedals as well.
