My Vintage Soul for a Voyager XL?!!

Post by Ned Bouhalassa » Mon May 23, 2011 2:15 am

I'm seriously thinking of selling off all my good old monosynths (SH101, SH5, Monopoly, SH2000) and using that $$ (and some more from a Korg VC10) to buy a Voyager XL. What do you guys think?

Yea I guess it depends if you actually use the SH's, Monopoly, etc. I got to play with a Voyager XL a month or so ago, and while it is an awesome piece of kit its still a Moog. It wont cover the all of the Roland and Korg sound you may still want to use.

If you could get a regular Voyager and a CP251/VX351 and keep some of your other synths id do that.

if you're worried you'll miss them, don't put them all up for sale at once...
(biting my tongue about the SH-5...)

Oh, but I'm not just after the Moog sound, I like the whole package (multiple input varieties - XY, Ribbon, etc; the modular aspect; memory and MIDI; the look).

Right. For mucking around, my old jewels are the cat's meow, but when it comes to my film/tv soundtrack deadlines - I need something that is quick to call up, synced and easily modified or kept as is (memory).

I'd keep the SH-5, nothing sounds like it. I don't think you'll miss the other synths.

Get rid of the SH101, and the SH2000.

Do NOT sell the SH5, or the MonoPoly. The SH5 is rare, beautiful, cool, and unique-sounding. The MonoPoly is one of the most powerful vintage synths ever made. The Voyager XL is frickin' cool and all, but you have a very unique and powerful couple of synths.

I take back what I said. Yeah, get rid of that embarrassing piece of c**p that is the SH-5. I mean, come on... get a REAL synth. You should unload that POS immediately, for a very low price.
To me.

You're RIGHT!!! Thanks guys.

Wow, that was close. Blame work fatigue. Not that I'm complaining!

OK, so now, I've got to find 5 grand.

The XL is the only thing I'd consider selling my Signature Edition Voyager for.

You can't really compare multiple synths to one, albeit nice but overpriced mono.

I wouldn't do it personally, you'd be better of having some sort of poly as well - having only just one (relatively) fixed path monosynth is pretty restrictive I think.

I'd definitely see if you could try it out extensively first before you make any decisions :geek:
