I think I remember reading that in Bernie Krause's biography, and that Franke paid a LOT for it.
Do you mean the book "Into A Wild Sanctuary: A Life in Music and Natural Sound"? I haven't read it, is it any good?

well, being two musicians/comedians I was not suprised, but I laughed pretty good at the lyrics:

and yeah, I've also made a habit out of looking for cool gear whenever there is a clip from a live show on TV,so far they're all nord stages, motifs and korg workstations, microkorgs and the occational kaossilator/kaoss pad
