RD1000 + MKS20?

Post by ItalianStallion81 » Sat Oct 08, 2011 10:21 am

Is it true that if you really want to get a truer-sounding violin patch or synth pad patch out of the RD1000 keyboard that you also need to have the MKS20 rack module to go with it, since they both employ the same SAS (Structured/Adaptive Synthesis) technology of the period (1986-90)? That is, if the MKS20 module does in fact give the RD1000 more synthesizer sounds?

In other words, what would the modern equivalent of the MKS20 rack module be, for use with such modern-day Roland stage pianos as the RD-300/700 series?

Which means, how many of you Roland players have both the RD1000 and MKS20?

The MKS20 has only piano sounds, no violin or other instruments.

Then what Roland rack module of the 1986-90 period would adapt with the RD1000 to get additional sounds not normally covered by the RD1000 itself?

And for the RD300/700 series, which period-matching rack module by Roland would give these two series of stage pianos additional sounds? I know Lawrence Gowan of Styx plays a tricked-out RD300 stage piano with MIDI to gain additional sounds (such as certain synthesizer patches for solos heard on such songs as "One with Everything" and "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)").

BUMP

I think I may have solved the problem here. I think what I want to use with the RD1000 to get violin and other synthesized sounds, would have to be the D550 rack module. Have you guys ever used a D550 with your RD1000?

The RD1000 is a MIDI keyboard.

It will play *any* MIDI synth or sound module, so you can pick whatever combination of instruments that makes the sounds you want, vintage or modern and happily use them by playing them from the RD. They don't have to be Roland modules, as long as they've got MIDI, you're golden.

Weird thread. Guy posts it five years ago, gets an answer, then bumps it five years later to ask a question about a topic you'd think he resolved five years ago.
